Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – The Zero Hunger Trust Fund (ZHTF), in partnership with the Ministry of National Mobilisation, Social Development, Family, Gender Affairs, Youth, Housing and Informal Human Settlement, has successfully completed the 2026 distribution phase of the Adopt-A-Class Programme, bringing much-needed back-to-school support to vulnerable students and their families across the country.
Initially scheduled to run from 13 to 24 July 2026, the distribution period was extended to 31 July to provide additional opportunities for beneficiaries to access support and ensure the widest possible reach. This year, the programme approved assistance for 475 students across 21 primary schools, reflecting a continued commitment to ensuring that children are equipped for the upcoming academic year regardless of their economic circumstances.
As part of the support package, beneficiaries received book vouchers through the Adopt-A-Class Programme, while the Ministry of Social Welfare complemented the initiative through the provision of school uniforms, creating a more comprehensive package of educational assistance for eligible students.
Investing in Education, Supporting Families
The programme is as a key component of the Learning Enhancement and Nutrition Support (LENS) programme, strengthening ZHTF’s commitment to ensuring that children from vulnerable households are supported to access a quality education. By reducing education-related barriers and easing pressure on household resources, Adopt-a-Class helps create a pathway for children to become self-sustaining citizens while reducing their exposure to food vulnerability.
By assisting with the cost of educational supplies, the programme helps parents and guardians redirect limited household resources toward other essential needs, including food, transportation, utilities, and healthcare expenses. More importantly, it helps ensure that household income does not determine a child’s ability to participate fully in the education system. The programme represents more than the distribution of vouchers. It is an investment in children, their futures, and the long-term wellbeing of their families and communities.
A Decade of Growth
Since its launch in 2016, the programme has expanded significantly, growing from support delivered through just five schools to reaching students in 21 schools across St. Vincent and the Grenadines in 2026. The expansion also reflects the Trust Fund’s commitment to ensuring that support reaches communities throughout the country and that more children have access to the resources necessary to participate confidently in school.
Building Resilience Through Opportunity
The Adopt-A-Class Programme forms part of broader efforts to strengthen social protection and reduce poverty by investing in education. Educational assistance provides immediate relief for families while creating opportunities for longer-term social and economic advancement. Looking Ahead
The conclusion of the July distribution exercise marks the end of the scheduled distribution period and not the end of the programme’s support to vulnerable children and families.
As the Adopt-A-Class Programme continues to grow, the Zero Hunger Trust Fund remains committed to working with the Ministry of Social Welfare, schools, communities, and partners to remove barriers to education and create pathways toward greater resilience, opportunity, and improved quality of life.
