National Home and Community Garden Food Security Project
The National Food Security Drive (NFSD) was launch in September 2024 as a decisive response to the devastation wrought by Hurricane Beryl on Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ food systems. It was implemented by the Zero Hunger Trust Fund (ZHTF) in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, local agencies and international partners with the aim to restore domestic food production, reduce vulnerability and foster long-term household resilience.

Its first phase, “Eat What You Grow,” offered seeds or seedlings, starter kits, training and mentoring, and set a target of 7,000 home gardens by December 2024. A second phase focused on school and community gardens, school feeding programmes and local markets to improve access to fresh, affordable food.
From home gardens to thriving communities.
Two connected phases take the mission beyond individual plots and into schools, neighbourhoods and local markets.

Plant Today, Eat Tomorrow
Learn More About the drive
The NFSD stands as a nationally coordinated, multi-partner response to restore local food production, safeguard nutrition, and embed resilience into SVG’s food systems. It is guided by the conviction that food sovereignty, the right of people to define and control their own food systems, is the foundation of a resilient nation
