The EU-CaN Cultivating Futures: Empowering Youths for a Food Secure Region project has welcomed Michker Edwards-Porter as its Technical Expert.
In this role, Edwards-Porter will provide technical assessments and guidance to support the development of ecological climate-resilient school gardens. She will work closely with participating schools to establish sustainable garden systems while helping to integrate nutrition education and Garden-to-Lunch approaches into project activities.
Her responsibilities will also include supporting training for teachers and other stakeholders and contributing to regional knowledge-sharing across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Saint Lucia and Dominica.
Edwards-Porter brings extensive experience in agricultural education and community engagement to the project. She has served as a lecturer in Agriculture at the Division of Technical and Vocational Education of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College for almost 19 years and holds a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture.
With a strong background in agro-based entrepreneurship, Edwards-Porter has also contributed to the delivery of agricultural education and training for farmers’ cooperatives and women’s groups. Her areas of specialisation include agro-processing and value addition.
Her technical knowledge and practical experience will play an important role in helping participating schools create productive and sustainable gardens. These gardens will support hands-on learning, encourage healthier eating habits and contribute to improved food and nutrition security.
Through her work with schools and stakeholders across the four participating countries, Edwards-Porter will help advance the project’s goal of cultivating healthier schools, stronger communities and a more food-secure Caribbean region.
