The Zero Hunger Trust Fund has revamped its Learning Enhancement and Nutrition Support (LENS) programme to broaden the scope of coverage for schools and students on board. The LENS programme which encompasses the ‘Adopt a Class’ and Resilient School Feeding programmes, is one of several offered by the ZHTF. The initiative provides resources to improve the learning outcomes of students which include: the provision of textbooks and uniforms through an arrangement with the Ministry of Social Development and the hiring of tutors, particularly catering for students with academic challenges. The programme will now accommodate an increased number of students who need assistance. This is all in keeping with the fund’s mandate to end hunger, improve nutrition and sustainable livelihoods.
A total of 18 schools are currently part of the programme, and so far, the principals of 14 schools have all signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the ZHTF in support of the revamped LENS programme.
The schools currently on the programme are: the Chateaubelair Methodist School, Rose Hall Government School ,Fitz Hughes Government School, Stubbs Government School, Calliaqua Anglican School, Clare Valley Government School, Mayreau Government School, Gomea Methodist School, Owia Government School, Lauders Primary School, Barrouallie Government School, Fancy Government School, Sandy Bay Government, Barrouallie Anglican School, Fair Hall Government School, Lodge Village Government School, South Rivers Methodist School and the Spring Village Primary School.
